A lovely cottage in a super location, yards from a great pub and beautiful river walks. Bigger downstairs space than we were expecting from the photos.

"We had a lovely time"

OCTOBER 2020

Clair’s place is located in a beautiful and quiet village, just 1 min walk from river Deben. It was our first time in the area and we really liked it. The kitchen and living area are very spacious and light. The beds very comfy with one bedroom being en-suite. We had a lovely time and we would definitely recommend it and come back again.

"Waldringfield is a charming river-side village"

SEPTEMBER 2020

The cottage is spacious, clean, light and airy. It is very well equipped for self-catering and the garden is a lovely spot to sit outside. The beds were comfortable and the showers all worked well. It is located a few doors down from the village pub. We had wondered in advance if we might hear noise from the pub, but actually it was very quiet, and great to have a local place to eat and have a drink just a few doors away. Waldringfield is a charming river-side village. There is not a lot there other than the pub and the sailing club, but there are great walks and cycle rides straight from the door. We spent a week there and still didn't manage to see everything we wanted to in the local area, so we may well be back!

"Thoughtfully & stylishly appointed and precisely as described"
OCTOBER 2018

Holmlea is a wonderful property very thoughtfully & stylishly appointed and precisely as described. The accommodation is spotlessly clean, comfortable and warm despite the arctic chill which arrived in the east about the same time as we did! The location is ideal being a pebble's throw away from the River Deben and a very nice pub (The Maybush Inn). Riverside walks are therefore on your doorstep and we would particularly recommended the circular trail from the pub taking in the local hamlets of Hemley & Newbourne.

Neil & Julie.

"Bright, spacious and incredibly comfortable"
JULY 2018

We found Holmlea to be bright, spacious and incredibly comfortable. It had everything we needed and the location is ideal for both the little beach, the coast path and the pub. The outdoor furniture also enabled us to make the most of the incredible weather. Thanks for a wonderful weekend.

"The house is beautiful. We were six people and had an amazing time."
MAY 2018

The house is beautiful. We were six people and had an amazing time. The closeness to the river and the pub is really convenient for a relaxed stay away. The house was super clean, had enough space and a great garden. We were lucky with the weather, too, so altogether a very great weekend. Clair has been super helpful with responding very fast. Local tips were also spot on. Parking on the rear is accessible if you turn right from the main car park of the Maybush pub.

"Comfortable, well equipped and pretty spacious"
EASTER 2018

This is a very comfortable, well equipped and pretty spacious cottage right by the river. We really enjoyed our walks along the shoreline.

"Lovely stay, our second at Holmlea. Very well-appointed"
JUNE 2017

Lovely stay, our second at Holmlea. Very well-appointed, and weather was good enough for us to benefit from the garden this time. Thanks to Clair for extending our checkout 'til 4pm. We really enjoyed not having to rush off first thing on Sunday!

"Spacious, well equipped, very clean, a lovely private back garden"
JUNE 2016

Holmlea is in a delightful location a few yards from the beautiful Deben estuary and the excellent Maybush pub with its stunning patio views. The house is spacious, well equipped, very clean and has a lovely, private back garden. Lots of local walks and within easy reach of interesting places to visit. Harry, the owner, was very helpful and provided lots of information. Highly recommended.

Holmlea was a lovely house, right near the water - just what we were looking for. Plenty of space for our family, great facilities, clean, lovely garden, quiet location - great! And Clair was very helpful and always got back to us promptly on booking and questions. Would recommend! Thank you.

"Would definitely recommend!"
MARCH 2016

We had a lovely stay at Homlea. The house had all the comforts of our own home, with a great kitchen and dining area - overlooking the garden. The beds were super comfortable, so we all slept well. The house is also set in a lovely location, 2 mins from a great pub set on the river and some lovely walks. We could have stayed all week! Clair was a great host, providing lots of information on the area and responding quickly to all queries. Would definitely recommend!

"Superb location and generously appointed"
APRIL 2015

Superb location and generously appointed cottage so that even a full house of people do not need to fall over each other. Beach, sailing club, pub, walking (and running) trails all very convenient. No shop in village, but no great distance to Tesco, Sainsbury or Waitrose, and the nearby town of Woodbridge offers lots of interesting shopping opportunities.

"Delightful Home from Home"

Excellent location, warm, comfortable, spacious and very clean property, would not hesitate in staying again.

"The perfect family holiday home"
AUGUST 2014

We have just visited Holmlea for the second time and we loved it just as much as the first time, it's a lovely house in a great location.

The home is perfect for a young family, with a fenced garden and space for games on the beautifully kept lawn. The large glass doors allow for adult supervision of the garden from almost anywhere on the ground floor of the house. The three bathrooms are a great asset, as is the large kitchen table which allows plenty of room for the extended family to eat together.

The village is quiet and friendly, although the well situated riverside pub is quite popular. The river is a stone's throw from the house and provides an endless source of entertainment for kids and adults.

The local area has plenty of attractions, including a transport museum (which the kids loved), Felixstowe beach and the animal park. There is also a large Tesco and other stores just a 10 minute drive away.

Overall Holmlea is highly recommended and we are looking forward to visiting again.

"Paradise by the River"
AUGUST 2014

Traveling with extended family can be stressful, but Holmlea, and its spacious rooms, made living with the family very comfortable, we all had enough space to not get in each other’s way. However, when we did want to enjoy each other’s company the dining table, which seated all 8 of us, made it very comfortable!

My husband loves being out in the country, the house was perfect for afternoon strolls on all the public footpaths. The park down the street gave our kids a place to stretch their legs and some fun football exercise. The best part was the pub, very close to the house, where many good times were had by the old and young, Pints for us and brownies for the kids!

JULY 2014

Our stay at Holmlea was fantastic. The home was clean, lots of light, and very spacious. The rooms and beds were clean and fresh. The pictures on the website described the place exactly. The town was awesome, the home is right next to a great pub, we spent much of our time there as well, great food and drink. I would recommend this place with 5 stars!

Another great feature is it had wi-fi, and we all needed that to keep in touch with our friends from home.

JUNE 2014

"Wow this is lovely!" was the response from all four of us! The rooms are all very nice with a terrific kitchen/diner looking out onto the well kept garden and patio. Very good location with lots of nice walks from the cottage and with a good pub and the river very close by. I would certainly recommend staying here and wouldn't be surprised if we book again soon.

JUNE 2013

Lovely house, true to the description on the website. The kitchen, living and dining areas are spacious and well equipped. Clean, contemporary, comfortable and practical - better than home from home. Bathrooms were fine but personally I prefer small headed showers rather than the plate type. The back garden was private, well laid out and equipped with table and chairs which would be great for outdoor meals. Location was good for those preferring peace and quiet with a river and boats nearby.

MAY 2013

We stayed at Holmlea for a long weekend and were very pleased. Having booked this place last minute due to our previous accommodation falling through, we couldn’t have been happier that it did. The house is lovely with and we loved the big open plan kitchen with the doors out to the garden - it was perfect to enjoy the sunny weekend. The house is well equipped and the location is great, only a few doors down from the local pub the Maybush which is fantastic and with great views over the river. We would definitely recommend this property and hope to return ourselves if we are in the area again!

AUGUST 2011

We got back home last night after what we all felt was a wonderful break; we really enjoyed staying in Waldringfield and especially in your house. It's not often I say this but there was a small pang of jealousy in you having such a lovely home to be able to return to - again and again! I do hope we have the chance to come and stay there some time in the future.

APRIL 2011

Thank you for a fabulous week this Easter. What a wonderful house in a great location.

Our walks directly from the cottage along the river Deben gave us breathtaking views of this beautiful estuary. We enjoyed watching a diverse range of wading seabirds in the creeks and were lucky enough to see a family of seals a mile or so down river basking in the sunshine. What a treat!

The friendly waterside pub, literally almost next door, served us delicious fresh crab and prawn salads on our first day and the kids were delighted to be offered traditional fish and chips! It was great for the children to be able to walk up to the field by the church to play football and basketball if they needed a break from the beach and river activities. They even swam and this was April!

We had planned some day trips during our week - the nearby National Trust's Sutton Hoo, Orford Ness and Orford Castle, Minsmere bird reserve, Southwold perhaps with a ferry trip across to Warberswick if it was running plus a cream tea at Snape Maltings. In the end, because the weather was so lovely and the children were enjoying the activities and freedom that Waldringfield offered, we only had time for a trip to Orford Castle and a quick meal at the Orford Butley Oysterage. How lovely not to have to use the car much except for the odd trip to a farm shop or supermarket in neighbouring Martlesham Heath.

The house works really well. A lovely open layout, all mod cons, very tasteful and calm décor, enough bathrooms to keep teenage girls smiling and even broadband for when the weather's bad!

Thank you for a really relaxing week of fresh air. We will be back later this year!
The Mythen family, west London.
